Approach

The college application process is one of the most important transitions in a young person’s life. Rather than treating admissions as a series of boxes to check, Jenny helps students use this time to develop confidence, clarify their goals, and better understand who they are.

Working with a small number of students each year, she provides highly personalized guidance through every stage of the journey—from academic planning and extracurricular development to essays, applications, and college selection. Combining mentorship with deep knowledge of the admissions landscape, Jenny helps students build applications that are both strategic and authentic.

The result is not just a stronger application, but a more confident and self-aware student.

The Creative Advantage

The strongest college applications tell a compelling story. Creativity is often what transforms a collection of accomplishments into a memorable and distinctive narrative.

Jenny’s background as an artist, filmmaker, and educator gives students a unique advantage in developing that story. Whether through visual art, filmmaking, writing, design, research, entrepreneurship, or independent projects, she helps students identify meaningful themes, develop original work, and communicate their experiences in ways that resonate with admissions officers.

For some students this includes building a portfolio or creative supplement. For others, it means bringing greater originality, depth, and coherence to every part of the application process. In either case, creativity becomes a powerful tool for standing out while remaining authentic.

About

Jenny Gage is a Yale MFA–trained filmmaker, fine artist, and photographer whose work bridges visual art and narrative storytelling. Her photography and films have been exhibited internationally and are held in the permanent collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Orange County Museum of Art, and the Corcoran Collection. Early in her career, she was featured in the landmark exhibition Another Girl, Another Planet, curated by Gregory Crewdson, and presented a solo show at Luhring Augustine.

She has taught at Yale University, Bard College, the School of Visual Arts, and The New School, mentoring emerging artists and developing curricula over more than two decades.

Following a successful career in fashion and commercial photography—including work with Vogue and representation by Art+Commerce—Jenny transitioned into filmmaking. She directed and produced the critically acclaimed documentary All This Panic, followed by directing and co-writing After, a People’s Choice Award–winning film that became a global success and reached number one on Netflix. Her most recent feature, Are We Lost, premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival.

She continues to work closely with young artists and students, bringing a deeply practiced eye to storytelling, image-making, and the development of creative voice.

Services

College Counseling

College counseling is a sustained process that requires patience, trust, and understanding. We work closely with students over time through regular meetings and strategy sessions, supporting both academic planning and creative development. Our goal is to help students make thoughtful, well-informed decisions and to shape a coherent personal narrative that reflects who they are and where they hope to go.

Essay Coaching

Essays are a central part of the college application. Through creative prompts, guided exercises, and careful revision, we help students develop their voice and uncover the stories that feel most authentic to them. Whether working on the Common Application or school-specific prompts, our approach treats essay writing as a reflective and exploratory process rather than a formula to follow.

Expert Application Guidance

The college application process has become increasingly complex. We provide clear, steady guidance to help families navigate it thoughtfully and without unnecessary stress. From school research and overall strategy to interview preparation and financial aid considerations, we help students understand each step of the process and approach it with confidence.

Portfolio and Creative Supplement Guidance

Creative portfolios and application supplements can offer powerful insight into a student’s interests, thinking, and originality. We support students in developing and presenting creative work — including visual art, writing, and interdisciplinary projects — in ways that are intentional and well considered. While essential for art schools, creative supplements can also play a meaningful role at a wide range of colleges and universities.
